Hi all, I was wondering if theres anybody out there who is planning to go to work in Oz, I know theres a few posts on this subject but with the recent changes to the 'in demand' list for Oz (tree surgery / arborist has been removed) i was wondering if theirs another route in, I am over 30 so I am not eligable for a Work holiday visa. Any feeback would be much appreciated

if its not in demand i rekon the best thing to do would be contact as many companies as possable saying you looking for sponsership. if you get a few positive replys, go out on a holiday visa and do a trial with them. if its all gravey then your on your way

From what I can workout 'tree surgery' was on the 'critical list' for years and then more recently was on the the 'General skills migration' list, but one off the first things the new Oz PM did was she cropped the General list from about 400 occupations down to about 130, tree surgery looks like it has been completly removed. Sponsership would be an option but because am over 30 I am not eligable for a Working holiday visa which makes it alot more difficult to 'get my foot in the door' as they say.

Yea, Julia Gillard (PM) cropped the skills list to bits recently. I'd wait to see if it changes again as she's now out of power i believe!!

As for sponsorship, i started my arb career in Oz on a WHV, the only way i think you'll get sponsored is by working with a company for a couple of months and if there really genuine and want to keep you on they'll sponsor you. But, seen as everyone want to go to Oz these days, companies dont have to sponsor employees and there's always more coming thru the airport doors... But then again, you could be the exception to the rule and get sponsored. I cant see any other way to go mate, as im checking it out myself. Hang tight is the way forward i think.

Or there is another thing called a Regional Visa, which allows you only to work within 1 state i.e NSW, QLD etc... Pretty broad visa in itself, but im not sure how you go about getting one of these! I tried asking immigration when i was out there but they weren't too forthcoming with information in regards to it!!!
