Best way of cutting monkey puzzle timber?

I've got a monkey puzzle to take down tomorrow, around 45 feet high, 20"-24" DBH.

Can anyone suggest the best way to cut it up to keep the timber? I.E, thickness/length of planks if i use the mill, or is it best to crosscut shorter logs for turners etc?

Any info would be good:thumbup1:

Hi pete.

The turners like the bit with the whorls in it- you know regularly up the trunk you have those rings (i assume where branches would start (theres probably a name for them) and they will take rings that are cylinders as it were. Planking-wise- it is beautiful timber. I have just done one to 1" thickness and will make it into a small floor.

Cheers for that Tom, just been on the phone with someone and they suggested similar. Thats milling the lower stem (approx 15-18 feet) then where the limbs start, cut into rings, possibly with the groups of limbs in the center of the log. You think that sounds like a plan?
