Tipper hydraulics question

Someone told me that it's bad for the hydraulics, or something to do with the tipper mechanism, to have the tipper a little way up when chipping into it.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with doing that, but i thought i would ask people who know. cheers

It puts pressure on the rams and seals but no more than when the pump is sending the body up. The main issue would be if you are moving about on site with the body up. Then the jolting might put undue stress on the seals and would certainly stress the tipper hinge at the back of the body.

The tipper isn’t designed to be used like that but most put up with it well enough. The scissor type’s will dislike it more than the direct lift types.

The part that is going to take most abuse is the flexi hose from the valve to the bottom of the tipping ram.

it will put stress on the seals for a longer amount of time and they may need replacing at some point earlier than suggested

i was always taught to leave anything hydraulic in a positon when parked that no seals were left unde stres when they needn.t be

if anything fails whilst it is in mid position the body may drop and cause injury

i presume you have a safety device to lock the body up when working underneathe it

get one of these made up so that it holds the body halfway up if you are worried

the easiest is a piece of channel that goes over the pistotn and sits on the ram body

If you leave your tipper down in the winter the salt gets between the ram and piston and rots it. I leave mine up and pray with wd40 if I dont use it for a while. Best to clean and maintain. when the ram drops the vacumm pulls in any water around it
