Global Arb issues -

Recommended Posts

Spent sometime last week with an Open Space Divisional Manager from

CityWide, Melbourne.

CityWide is "a major Australian physical services company providing civil infrastructure, open space and environmental services to government and private enterprise."

Showed him around our patch & chatted around issues that effect both our sites (people, access, compaction, drought, safety, bio-diversity & p&d)

Was particularly interested in how the Elm Bark Beetle (Pyrrhalta luteola) is causing major concern to Melbournes fine collection of Ulmus sp.

PaDIL - Fact Sheet

I get the impression that through soil injection, (other controls include

Trunk injection & Bark banding)

CityWide are winning this battle, but this is very much an ongoing war with climate (ten year drought) & associate p&d prevelance.

On another point of interest, I was supprised to hear that 90 -95% of CityWides Arboricultural works are carried out via travel towers (mewps).

Issues around safety, skills & efficiency.

Thought that as we are a global community, it would be interesting to hear what's hot in your local world of Arb?

Please feel free to post anything of interest from

around the world :001_smile:
