Honey on live standing Oak ? quote

take a walk through Chesham bois wood david, plenty to observe. in all states.

I will stick some pics up another time (got to find) of an ornamental malus, had cleary been infected at the heart wood by Armillaria for a long time, a decade i would say, then as soon as the tree began to senesce the armillaria went for it and took out the cambium.

Yeah, ive seen armilaria on standing healthy old Beech, like your Perenni at Whip, but never came across Oak with rhizomorphs on trunk.

FC state it's resistant.

though have seen armilaria mushies at the base of a Fulham Oak trunk, though again no Rhizomorphs on trunk

Tony, I know this tree really well, and visit regularly.

I don't doubt that the adaptive growth is systematic of some internal reaction.

Though I've only ever noted these Armilaria on it.

Bar an as yet, un identified fung growing out of a wound at height.

Firstly I never meant to insinuate that you wouldnt have deduced the root formation situation, just my overkeen nature making observations:blushing:

I cant help it i see a root/tree like that and I go all OCD!

looked through 14 pages of that fulham oak thread and never saw the Unidentified bracket?

started the clean up, & will winch the trunk out tommorow.

Gave Tom the apprentice his first go with the biggy today.

Chesire cat comes to mind

Have got the provisional go ahead to look into getting someone in to carve the trunk.

Should make an interesting project.

  • 4 weeks later...

So finally put some time aside & winched this lump of Oak out & away from the twisted fence.

Where we've dragged it to will be it's new home, replacing the exisiting lumps of Horse Chestnut.

Will now look at the option of getting in someone, to carve an elaborate bench out of it. :001_smile:
