Hi there Alex . I am also going to be doing mine soon to thourgh a training company in Wales called Greenlight in Merthyr Tidfill .They ring round to find you a sponser and then you pay them .

It costs 150 for the medical and 200 quid for the 2 days training .

The ticket lasts 2 years .

there website address is Greenlight Jobs - Construction and Rail Recruitment - GreenlightJobs.co.uk tell 01685 383677

You cant just walk in off the street and get a PTS mate, At least you couldnt when i did mine, You have to be sponsor'd by the company you'll be working for (i think, thats what i was told), The chap you know will have had a sponsor at some point, Maybe he parted company with them tho.

Hi Alex a sponsor is a company that will put you forward to do the ticket and pay for the course this is the only way it can be done .

but the way round it is either to go through a training company that find a sponsor for you and then you pay the company for it . or if you can find a sponsor ie the company you work for to put you forward then you can pay them back if they don't want to pay .

Usually if you are lucky and are going to work for a company that want you to work on track side then they will pay for PTS for you no problems but if like myself want it to help yourself gain better chances of employment then you pay for it via sponsor.
