no idea....no way of guessing in their condition either...couldn't even make a guestimate based on the estate either as thats years old

 

No worries was hoping there would be an old master Ted knocking about who fathers fathers dad! woulda have planted them.

We are going to start a management plan moving forward, repollaring 4 trees each year to avoid having to hit them all at once again. They could be let grow larger, but I don't think some of the trunks are strong enough to sustain much heavier growth. Be a shame to see more go as they are host to all sorts of wildlife, including several owls nests.

Good update

 

Personally I think even the dead standing ones should be considered within the management plan. Those are the ones with greatest biodiversity value for habitat. Is there no scope to move them from the avenue and resurrect, or habitat pile them somewhere else on the estate?
