Needing a bit of advice. 50-60 year old white cherry blossom has upright cotoneaster growing out of junction of trunk (see pics)

It has been there at least 5 years. Will this cause any problems to the tree or weaken the structure at all?

Any advice appreciated.

I'd not want to park my car under it in a storm. Save it from what?

For something to grow in a tree there is usually a decay pocket filled with frass/soil which is not a good sign, there is not usually a space for anything to grow in a tight union as that. Tight unions have included bark, the two stems will be pushing apart as the stems expand from new growth, and the bark prevents them bonding.

The CE is less of a problem than the union itself, but it indicates decay in an already weak union.

If there is any risk to houses, cars, people, it would be wise to get an experienced arborist to do an inspection.

Looks to be on a green space on council land rather than a garden or private land? if so, they have inspectors.
