I have a ported 372 so a bit older and I find 24" the comfortable max on a standard 7 pin sprocket .

I have a 572 and a 576, both big enough for 98% of what I do.

If you’re talking about ringing up big hardwood (like in your picture) for hand balling on trucks/trailers then a 100cc saw will be needed imo.

Depends how often you'll be cutting oversized timber.

You could use skip/semi skip with a longer bar but you may need to upgrade the oil pump.

If its regular use a bigger saw is the way to go.

Good point, no real need for long bar just cut lots of blocks . I've done fairly big (not as big as pic) willow stems with 461 and 25" bar, you just keep cutting blocks you can lift. Patience and perseverance for the win.

For me a, for a 70-ish CC saw is ideal for a 20 inch bar.  i probably could use a 25 inch bar, but I have a 120cc Stihl 088 for that length of bar and blocking up.

I would suggest if you used a 461 on 25" and an 088 on 25" you'd pretty soon prefer the 461, it cuts just fine with the bar buried. Not super revvy but plenty of torque for that bar.
