Not a fan of the them on modern stihls. I have a ms250 in to repair that is missing the fuel cap, missing because it fell off and wasnt noticed - a lot of arbs dont bother with the string.

I can never get the oil caps to close nicely - think they are closed and then they pop open and spill down your leg, great fun.

Seems theres nothing yet that can be 3d printed as a replacement.

These appear they may be better - only seen in a video but they seem to close more firmly. However they dont seem to be available in the UK?

Don’t fill the oil right to the top, on the top handles tip the saw back when full and an air bubble will pop dropping the oil down.  If the oil is right to the top the cap compresses into the closed position, you turn to lock and it doesn’t catch because it’s floating above.  Every newbie is allowed 2 mess ups with me then it’s shouty shouty time, it’s the easiest part of the whole job so if that’s a stumbling block long term I don’t want them around.

If you can’t work out if the fuel or oil cap is secure then you shouldn’t really be using a saw. Probably best with some crayons (or maybe consider a career change and become a scaffolder).

This should be called’ show us your right trouser leg ‘ thread! Had a lad years ago who kept doing this, the final straw was he walked 150m along a mono block path in a posh oldies flats.  Made him get a pressure washer, get the abuse and lecture of the head pita oldie and wash the whole path.  He’s now head man of a huge organisation.  Sometimes a good shouting sorts us out!

It’s funny how the ‘Stihl fuel cap problem’ never happens to experienced users.

Yes, there’s a knack, and we’ve all ballsed up, but you just learn.

This old ms250 wouldnt close with the tank under 1/4 full near empty, so no, it is not overfilled.

There may be a knack, but theres nothing wrong with the old screw caps of my 020T.

Remove cap, hold top part of cap still, rotate the bottom half of the cap either clockwise or anti-clockwise until it doesn't move, reinsert, twist, sorted.
