Random logs punched 1/2  way through random bundles then snicked off and tested. As evidenced by the fresh cut faces.

Highest was 16.9, lowest was 13.9. My Cem DT-129 being set for Sitka Spruce.

The ones on the ground, arnt really, cos they are up on rails.

Cheers

A mixed bag, some left over from 2 year ago, some split last summer.

Where I dry them now lies below the canopy of a few Chestnutt I planted, plus lies full to the prevailing wind and Sun.

But we had absolutely horriffic never ending rain over the winter, right through to say 10 to 14 days ago. Ground was WET WET WET.

But regardless the logs were dry enough such that the few days of dreauth dried them.

27 bundles in, with 10 more to go.

I took me a while to realize that egg shaped stayed tighter/ lifted better than round.

Cheers

Then back to the roof.

Bastard of a builder cut a few corners, and the wind did the rest.

Nice 1.  When you say 16.9 and 13.9, is that % moisture content? I just have a cheap tester, but I compared it to a carpenter's £200 one and my results were way out. Apparently the cheap testers are useless.

Your drying setup looks amazing! Im switching to IBC cages, but your bundles have even better airflow.  People tell me you can just put green wood indoors to dry, but personally I like a bit of outdoor weathering as well.  I think it speeds things up.

Yes % age moisture.

I bought it off eBay, and have  tested it by trying "bone dry" timber and wood within the house. And the results seemed to be in line with what I would expect.

Like, just now, I went to the box of firewood that has been sitting in the deadly heat in the Sunroom( the low Sun in the Spring and Autumn really does a number in the South and West facing Sunroom ) for say a month. And it was well dry when it was brought in forby.

I got  readings between 10.1 and 10.9 across a handful of sticks.

Which appears a reasonable result.

Like, short of putting wood in an oven, I would not expect it to be any drier with our high relative humidity.

Cheers

P.S.

Now going to Google how dry dry wood can get!

I agree about weathering outside first, one of the advantages of these meter cubed bundles is they stack and can be moved relatively easily if you have the kit.

I sold my loader tractor last year and have not replaced it so I have a bundling cradle with proper compressing ratchet strap and binders surplus to requirement. Happy to sell if anyone is interested. I'll post a proper ad with pictures if so.

I agree, the exposeure with the strapped bundles is mighty indeed, I used to try and cover them, but the wind was such I gave up, and it appears to make no difference, as long as one leaves bringing them inside until after a bit of dreuth.

I find that the wind is the biggest factor for what dries quickest, do 2 stacks one in the wind and one out of it, and windy will dry many times quicker. I am guessing that your wind will blow through the bundles end on rather than sideways?

(rain will only wet the outer surface, cover doesn't do as much as wind will)
