Hello all.  I have just changed my accountancy software to Lime-Books.  I have no affiliation with them and am posting purely to recommend the software.  My new accountant suggested them and for sole traders (possibly small businesses too) it is ideal and inexpensive.  The non- VAT registered business package is just £2.99 per month.  It allows only 50 bank transactions (credits/invoices and debits/receipts) per month with any extras charged at 7p per transaction.  Even if one needed 50 extra transactions it would cost just £3.50!  Any unused transactions (below 50) are rolled over.  Costs are + VAT.  A VAT registered package is available for £5.99 per month which allows 100 bank transactions per month.  A really basic pay-as you-go one is also available.

This is considered a very easy, intuitive system to use, but inevitably for us non-book keepers/accountants, we are going to need  some support.  There is plenty of it including YouTube videos, online chat, and printed online information.  THIS IS BRITISH COMPANY with British (not American) voice overs on the videos.  I like to see a minnow taking on the giants like Xero and Quick Books.

I'm a bit of relic so if I don't reply to any posts it not because I'm being rude -  it's because I haven't figured out how to receive notifications!!😂

I’m balls deep in quickbooks unfortunately which is a shame as it’s getting more and more expensive by the day, plus every update seems to make less and less sense

It’s daunting switching. I waited until the end of the tax year and changed my bank account, accounts package and accountant!!!  It is useful to have an accountant that uses your accounts software and Lime-Accounts isn’t YET widely used. For anyone that is interested I reckon any accountant worth their salt should be able to work with it even if they use one of the more established packages. These clever packages allow importing of previous data but to what extent I’m not sure.

For anyone reading this, please consider backing up any cloud based accounts software that you use. If it gets hacked HMRC is unlikely to be sympathetic in the event of a tax enquiry yet alone an investigation. Cloud based is great for accessibility but if it gets compromised it doesn’t bear thinking about.

I’m just starting with Xero and trying to get my head round it. I am still going to back it all up with excel spreadsheets which has worked perfectly for many years. If it all goes pear shaped I still have proper records.

i feel I want to charge HMRC for my time having to learn all this stuff - I cut trees, I’m not particularly computer literate!
