Makita have a new promotion of a free battery when buying tools, lasts to October.

The last promotion was good, I gained 5 batteries from it, which to be fair, was a bit excessive? Two of them I've not needed yet.

List of what counts is here

https://makitapromotions.co.uk/en-GB/xgt26/products

The tools are good, mine are lasting well.

UX01G power unit (I have hedger, polesaw, brush cutter attachements, but doesnt appear they count for this)

UB001 blower

UH006 or UH007 short hedger

UC029 pruning saw

UC003 top handle

DC40RB double charger

Bl4040F battery

They are soon releasing another top handle, UC031 that may be a better climbing saw than the 002/003.

Having nailed my colours to the 18/36v Makita masthead, I shan't be able to avail myself of this. I'm too invested to change.

I would however be delighted if Stihl ran another promo for the AP system.

I'm still using and happy with their 18v LXT tools - much cheaper tools and batteries.

Snap. Added to which, a twin 18v battery tool is effectively the same as a 40v. ( Makita used a bit of poetic licence when classifying the 40v tools. a 5Ah 18v battery has exactly the same number of cells inside as a 2.5Ah 40v battery, just wired in a different way ).

Last year they were saying around Easter time, for release of the UC031 saw, I think.

Looking at the Specs, it has an impressive 24m/s chain speed, but somehow weighs in at a hefty 3- 3.5 kg

It's got to cost £200-£300 ?

Makes the £80-  2.5kg 'Joncutter' look like even more of a bargain?

Not quite, the XGT tools have significantly more power and are higher quality tools than LXT, which is for low powered builders tools. Double battery is ok for occasional home owner use but when using all day, the number of batteries and the time to charge them all becomes silly!

With 3 chargers and 8 xgt batteries, if I use them all, thats 3 hours to charge. If it were double LXT I would need 16 and take 6 hours for the same work. No thanks!

They are priced a lot lower than Stihl and Husq's 36v systems and in many ways better.

The "poetic licence" is irrelevant, whether its called 36 or 40v everyone knows what it means and is exactly the same as Stihl and Husq using 10 cells in series.

The difference is Stihl is using cheap 18650 cells while Makita and Husq have moved to the significantly better and lighter 21700 tabless cells.

The AP system your going to is worse than XGT.

The Echo 2511 is 2.6kg fuelled, I think the clone was more like 2.8-3kg. Couldnt tell the difference myself and even so, worth the extra power. 91 quid for mine, bloody good saw for that..

Yes should be released next month. 3.5kg ready to cut and 1.1kw power. I intend to get it.

To compare, Stihls 161T is 3.8kg ready to cut for 1kw power, while 190T is 4.5kg ready to cut for 1.2kw, they both cost a lot more as does batteries and charger for the AP system.

The Makita UC002 is 4.1kg for 1.4kw so thats also winning there, just a shame they didnt give it a bit more power as it cant quite replace my 020T, even tho the batteries are good for 1.8k in other tools.

Weight is not so comparable petrol to battery though. Battery doesnt have anywhere near the same vibrations, so you dont get tired/HAVS as easily.

The auger seem a decent buy as its a half price it was before  - £220

Need to buy something else also though from same e-shop if I want another battery as offer says per transaction?

I'm not convinced by that, the fancy electronics will take the fun out of it! I quite enjoy using the 52cc auger which will go thorugh small roots easily enough.

Yes the pricings a bit odd! some shops and some tools have items half price. I got the blower for £120 and it is excellent but, looking now, its back up to £240 everywhere. The XGT trim router is about 88 quid in a few shops so I got that too.

Another excellent value one if you have space/length to store it is the telescopic polesaw for £250 - it has more power than the split shaft unit.
