First timer here.

How many people use this site and get free wood chips from trucks and how long do you roughly have to wait?

Or if you are the truck driver, how often do you use this site to deliver free loads?

Manythanks,

Michelle.

Very rarely, for using the tipping off wood chip at -domestic- addresses, speaking as a contractor.

However, if the recipient is offering a cash/other incentive, then hypothetically this would make me  inclined to enquire, at the very least?

If the need for chip is more urgent, then simply find out your nearest reasonable contractor, and phone/ask them?

Good luck with it!

Try getting in touch with local allotments. They sometimes have wood chip dumped, being slightly easier than domestic addresses. You'd probably be able to get your hands on some for only slightly more than £free.

There’s no ‘rough time’, I’ve known people register and get something within a day, whilst others are still waiting 12 months later. Rule of thumb, if you need chips desperately go buy them.

I've had nothing for 3 years then 3 huge loads of wood and chip in a couple of weeks. 😂

I offer plenty of space to tip, and promise not to turn them away whatever they've got any time time of the day or night.  Only stipulation I can't take artics😅.  Tractor and grain trailer the other day which saved the guy a 3hr round trip to the yard.  Another one with about 4t of oak on a transit, guessing he was thinking about his license😅.  Another couldn't tip in usual place as it was so wet.  Hopefully a win all round.

3 years is a bit much, good result in the end though 😃

Although it is a home address I have plenty of space for dumping loads.

Have you made the good access clear on your tip site? If one assumes a domestic property could have a domestic width drive (which if it is a Barratt box could be about car width + 2cm)... so make that clear.

Does your tip site specify you will take chip as well?

As a second tip, try the local tree surgeons, and also keep an eye out for ones around you working outside their local area - weird as it may be but not all look at the tip sites, the locals are usually sorted where to tip, but as above if it saves someone from further away a few hours round trip back to base to tip they will... so note any who might be away from home.

Another blocker might be tip sites near you - if someone has to drive past 2 or 3 tips to get to yours you are going to be limited what you get - not much you can do about that one though unless you offer cake and tea or something.

Finally assume that to get it free or cheap, you have to wait a while for the stars to align right but it should come.

For myself I get maybe 1 or 2 loads a year from the tip sites, and the same again from contacts I have made locally talking to people - that is chip and logs

Previous to that it was every few months probably.  Moved round the corner and nothing doing.  But wasn't desparate, just to add to whatevers on the log and compost pile already.  But seems they've discovered me again😅

I will go back and amend my profile as I have a driveway big enough to fit about 3 cars side by side so tipping shouldn't be a problem, and I also have a wide accessible front garden which can be used as a tip site. I put both down on my profile, maybe I need some better photos on there so they can see the potential.

Many thanks,

Michelle
