powerful kombi system

I want to buy a Multi Tool Combi for the upcoming season.  Will mainly be used for trimming heavy long grass and brambles.  Thus I guess I need a powerful machine.

Considering the multi tool rather than standalone as would like to have the hedge trimmer attachment and blade.  I have a FS55 Sthl, which is ok for light grass but if it see a bramble cord just breaks.

And i guess i will need a decent harness too.

What does the general forum recommend.   I will utilise for  7-8hrs a week during the growing season and I hope to have it for the next 30years.

I have a Maryuama Hedge Trimmer and Tanaka leaf blower, both 20years old, both start first pull.

I have the FS55 Stihl trimmer and a 5year old Stihl chainsaw, 16" blade, ms231.  The Stihls need regular tuning of the carbs, and its not like they are overworked. 25hrs a year each.

New or SH considered if anyone has anything suitable

Nothings going to last the next thirty years. Probably won’t even be able to buy petrol by then!

for the amount of use you are going to be doing you need a proper brush cutter. FS461 would be my choice.

A combi tool is just painful to use for that amount of heavy strimming.

If you need to tune the stihl carbs that often then you’re doing something wrong. No idea what but something! The good news for you is that the fs461 is mtronic which is auto tune.

Yeap multitools are shit esp  for that amount of usage.  U need a heavy duty brushcutter than can take a metal mulch blade without knackering the machine.

Id your strimming that many hrs per week sounds like ideally you  want a ride on or pedestrian flail mower etc

Is it possible remove strimmer head and fit hedge trimmer to an FS461

Why would you say combi tool is painful - too heavy ?

Kombis are a bit of a pain in the arse - handy as good for storage and adaptable with different heads but not really up to the job. Driveshafts snap, plastic bushes need replacing, extensions have very limited life.

ok for homeowner diy but not good enough for serious use. I have several and they are gradually being replaced with stand alone machines as they wear out.

Sorry fellas, but I'm going to swim against the tide here to a certain extent. Let me first concede that if you're going to be clearing Amazonian jungles all day every day, yes, a dedicated clearing saw is the answer. However, I have found that if you choose the correct blade/line for the job, a Kombi will cope admirably. KM 131 has to be the choice, in case you're going to use 2.7mm line, although it lasts longer than 2.4, it requires more power. For what they cost, I'd recommend having two cutting shafts, one with line, and one with blades, as I think the " universal " guard is being phased out. ( Not sure about that, I do know that they're moving towards single purpose guards ).

I think I have the Autocut 27-2 head for 2.7mm line, and my most used metal blades are Oregon 3 tooth blade for grass/scrub, or for brambles/heavier stuff, The 3 tooth mulching blade ( which requires patience, and a different action for best results ), or the amazing EIA type blade, which will cut wood up to 75mm easily. It's great for clearing hedges that haven't been touched since dinosaurs roamed the earth.

I did a bit of looking around locally today, Echo Stihl available.  Not seen anyone selling Honda or Kawasaki machines yet.

For a blade I was recommended a 2hp machine, and would rather not sell me a Kombi machine for using a majority of heavy blade work.  Stihl recommendation is a FS240, Stihl FS110 you can put a 500euro hedge trimmer head on it.  Hedge trimmer head mounting shafts are too small for FS240.

Hedge trimmer attachments are not really recommended for a 2hp machine. Id still like to buy a 2hp machine one though where i could swap the strimmer head for a hedge trimmer or pole saw end if anyone has any recommendations.
