Would it not be as simple to simply arrange to drive the PTO stub at 540rpm, if that is the required PTO speed? In the correct direction of rotation of course.

I’d plan to use belts and pulleys. Following with interest.

Then you will need a bigger engine to cover all the losses in a gearbox, belts / pullies.

 

Better to fit higher rpm pumps direct to the end of the engine. Mounts are stock items ect ect.

Get someone with one to give you the part numbers on the pumps.

 

Failing that look for pumps that run at 2800-3000rom with the correct flow & pressure rates.
