OK, I did some experiments yesterday, and I can say that core of my Marlow gecko can lift half of my partly loadet transit, that may be 1.5 ton(atleast a ton) , hovever I must admit that I wasn't right about 16 strand ropes, as I managed to get metre of samson blue I believe, and core of that rope didn't lift same load, and look very dodgy to me, so my apologies I WASN'T RIGHT , all my other ropes are kernmantle and core of them hold my half truck even on nearly half of them cut. Good channel on Tube, trow interesting video,

no sane person is using 11mm Kern in a Ropeguide so we can rule out Kernmaster or Globe I think...

I do on occasion, so thank you for the diagnosis 😂 more often through a fimblclimb, but kernmasters a really nice handling rope and easy to splice, I'm pretty happy using it drt or srt.

Haha. You're a better man than me then!! I found it horrible to splice (admitedly it was used) and would have no end of bother with my forearms and elbows if I climbed on it DRT

I’d read it was awful to splice as well, but new rope and just being especially meticulous with every step it was a breeze. On par with velocity. Granted I don’t work drt loads with it, I find the splice most handy for advancing drt before setting a canopy tie. Do occasionally though and as long as it isn’t loads of up and down it’s alright.

What taper did you use? I copied Nick Araya's method and it held the braid together nicely. You take 6 bottom strands on the left on adjacent strands, then 6 top strands on the left strands, then 6 bottom right and then 6 top right. Removes 50% of the cover strands and holds it together nicely.

From memory, I think the hardest part was getting the core out!

Yeah that was the taper pattern I used too, except I didn’t go top/bottom. Just one strand from every carrier to the left, then the same from the right. I did spend more time getting the crossover and eye really tight before burying and just really trying to keep as much tension as possible in there. The cover being so thin, it seems prone to a bit of bagginess in the eye if you aren’t careful? Nice rope though.
