Spindle tree?

Never noticed these pink seed pods before, they are in clusters of 4 but have only one orange coloured seed in them. Still a good few leaves on them. Anyone know what they are? Tree is about 20 feet high.

That's a Spindle.

Ancient Woodland indicator species. Could date the hedge to being very old unless it was recent planting and part of the mix of course.

I see a few on our dog walks out here. There’s another one I see with different colours, I’ll get a snap tomorrow.

Not recently planted anyway, I just never noticed the seeds before at this time of year. I think the berries are purple/black during the summer. Thanks for confirming it.

Definitely Spindle.  We have quite a few scattered around the place (in France before you ask).  What has really caught my attention this year is the phenomenal amount of seeds some of the trees are carrying.  Crappy snaps attached !  Is there a name for a Spindle mast ? !!!!

Quite frequent on the chalk downs, a particularly good patch of them on the Sheepleas between shere and East Clandon
