Screwfix Drill/Impact Driver Twin Pack Bargains - DeWalt vs Makita

Imo it's a bit like asking stihl or husky. Dewalt/Makita/Milwaukee/Hikoki/Bosch etc, they're all much of a muchness. Pick the colour that brings out the colour of your cheeks best :star:

Like with chainsaws though, they do different models, some are designed for DIY and screwfix special offers, some are for full time use. Wouldn't trust the reviews on screwfix much, they will put any old cheap tools as "trade rated"

Late to the party, but I run Dewalt gear and find it spot on. Have Impact driver, grease gun, angle Grinder and drill. All batteries interchangeable so happy days. Just need to remember to charge them is all!

I must admit the Milwaukee (can't spell it!) Is very good quality, if that bit more pricey than Dewalt.

Even later to the party!

I'd agree - all the big brands are much-of-a-muchness in terms of quality.  All have 'cheaper' models in their ranges in order to get people 'in' - so just be careful when you see a good deal.

One thing I would consider is to look at the entire range of tools each brand has and think about what you might want in the future.  You'll probably want to stick with just one to minimise all the different batteries and chargers you end up with.

I went for Makita because their range of battery tools  is probably the widest and most varied.  From building tools to garden tools and some weird and wonderful specialist tools [like a drywall cutter].

For the garage with impact tools and small grinders i prefer Dewalt, but also have Makita grinders too.
Just completed a big job of removing 300 square metres of harl along with a repoint. Bought 2 110 V makita hammer drills and 1 Chinese monster. One of the Makitas went back twice within two months for repairs. No quibble and well impressed with the abuse I gave themIMG_1634027658.976488.jpg

I got a brushless makita drill bare.

As  thay have a massive range at different prices its hard to compare quality against other brands unless its more specific models and whats best vfm etc.

Would be like deciding stihl is poor  after only using  a ms170.

Serious improvement, looks much better than before. Did you keep track of how many hours it took?

I agree - looks great (as does your dog Conor).  Huge area so must have taken quite some time.  Did you repoint with lime?

As for the cordless, I've gone down the DeWalt route and collect tomorrow so will see how I get on :)  Not likely to buy many/any other cordless drills, but you never know I guess.

Thanks for all the replies and help
