Slightly off Topic about Dry Stone Walling

Digger would have been nice!

I barrowed every stone from a broken wall round that little wood in the distance.

The farmer said I was mental and would never do it.

We sat on that wall when I’d finished and he gave me a bottle of Grouse and we had a few tins of McEwans Export that Dad and Mam bought out.

Happy times.

The things you do when your 19! Still, it’s character building, and something to show for your efforts. Don’t think you’d get many 19 year olds opting to do that now. Looks a nice area by the way, is that Northumberland national park?

I could put you in touch with a mate in Northumberland if you like?

Not in your area, obviously, but if you did a week up there with him you’d learn more than a lifetime of courses.

Here’s one of his rebuilds from this week.

If you could send over some info that would be amazing, sorry I've not checked back here for a few weeks. All students are back on campus and its mayhem! Your insights are helpful. I'll grab a few books. If you are into reading I found a great long read by an Indian born PhD student who did a Thesis in dry stone walling.

But yes if you could put me in touch with your friend I would be in your debt.

No worries Phil, I’ll ping him a message and get back to you.
