sorry for not updating you sooner,  been busy recovering from pneumonia amongst other things..

but tomorrow is five weeks since I cut my finger and its been hard work,  made good progress at the start, looked clean and no sign of infection at 2 weeks..only for a nurse to put foam padding on my still open wound and during the next 5 days the foam padding  stuck to the wound and new tissue and  the nurse  pulled out all the healed tissue whilst  changing my dressing..this padding also rubbed the cut raw..

9 total visits to the hospital and 4 different Doctors,  few nurses amd a specialist later, I think 🤔...its finally getting to feel normal and look significantly better.

thanks all for the replies and any help...photos below are in order from most recent...ironically the bottom one is after two weeks healing,  and its obvious which photo was the one after the padding got stuck to it.. top photo is from today..

It's getting there, going to leave an impressive scar it's a pain about the setbacks and hope you're feeling better now. I got my right little finger crushed many years ago and it was splinted and bandaged, stitched and aspirated (fluid syringed out really painful) and you can't tell now apart from the stitch line up the inside. It'll take some healing over as it's a wide wound.

When I had dressing changed on thump it was me  how had to soak it and remove bandage not to put any healing tissue.

Then when they replaced it put a fold in it so with plastic splint on it pushed on radial nerve in thump, hell of a painful.

aw nice...the only good thing to come from this, is the rest from climbing constantly has been good for the original nerve and overuse issue that was making my arm go dead,  which was how I ended up cutting myself.

my weight is currently down 32lbs since the start of this and getting sick..be a while before I feel like myself again..have you had any ongoing issues with the thumb?

the side of my finger is finally coming back to life and I can straighten it slightly now lol

they said to me to not get it wet at all, but only because of how wide open the  cut was, and they did say the new skin was paper thin and moisture would break it down,  the specialist was actually the one that cleaned it and decided that even though the cut was still bleeding and leaking fluid,  it was going well enough to change to the foam padding,  I knew within a few hours it was making it sore from rubbing and by the next morning it had stuck to the new tissue which stopped it rubbing, and I thought that even though I knew something was going wrong,  I trusted the specialist opinion and got on with it.

when I went to a dressing change a nurse and two other Dr's couldn't believe what the specialist had done and they said I was pretty much worse off than day one.

but sh1t happens and im lucky it wasn't any worse.

did you have any issues once yours healed? thanks im getting it changed tomorrow so I'll update then.

The daily dressings i had were like a greasy gauze and after the 3 weeks went to a dry dressing for a week and that was it healed up great, only trouble i have is that i didnt have the tendon repaired and finger dont bend at the end joint so a bit awkward
