Fuel leaking out of carb air intake

Hi.

I have a weird issue with my 4 year old Echo 2 stroke.  It starts and runs perfectly first pull, but fuel starts coming out of the carb air intake and eventually soaks the air filter causing the engine to die.

I've dismantled and cleaned the carb, everything looks fine, diaphragm soft etc. Fuel primer bulb pumps and works fine.  Fuel even continues coming out for several hours after the engine has stopped.  What could cause this? Any help appreciated.

Metering arm stuck ?

The metering arm is the pivot pressed down by the diaphragm which presses the needle in and out?

If so that seems OK. I took it apart and cleaned the needle reassembled, my only thought was there wasn't much movement on the needle created by pressing the pivot down.

Fuel tank vent issue?

Thanks, but I don't think its the same issue.  The leak occurs even overnight after use, when stored in a relatively cool room, so doubt its the fuel boiling and pressuring the fuel tank.  I did wonder if it was vents in the fuel cap and unscrewed it, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

I would say the only way it can get into the air intake is if the fuel needle is leaking, you need to pressure test the carb, this will tell you very quickly if its leaking, otherwise you/we are just guessing.

Thanks I think thats probably the first port of call.  Unfortunately finding an Echo parts supplier seems to be quite hard in the UK.  I've tried 2 places off the Echo UK website, trying to get a carb rebuild kit and neither have got back to me in over a week.
