Things you used to say ironically that you now say a lot.

Got this from Twitter thought it might get a few laughs.

If my old man started a sentence with “many years ago….” I used to roll my eyes and take the piss, then I started saying it ironically, now I say it (in an Irish accent) before telling my nephew some boring old crap that has him telling me he heard It before, not that it stops me recounting it again.

What did you start saying as a joke that you now trot out as a truism? Especially if some old geezer used to come out with it.

We were driving round London in a truck with my old boss (1996 ish) a 6 ft transvestite in heels waits to use  the crssing in front of us, he stops to let him/her cross then quite calmly says “the things you see when you haven’t got your gun” then off we go, nothing else said.

That has crept in here recently, was a regular saying of my father who died 20 years ago.

Not sure if it is me getting old or a reaction against the modern trend of people looking for a reason to feel offended 🤔

I still use that in wonderment on viewing someone with an odd look, clothes or particular mannerism!

Various religious/biblical phrases, stories, fables, anecdotes etc. I still think religions are a load of nonsense (only when they’re not being actively evil) but they spin good yarns. God speed, insh’allah, it’s god plan for you etc.

Whenever I couldn’t finish a meal when I was a kid.  My dad or mum would say…

“Eat your food, there are baby children starving in Africa you know!”

Cheers Bob (Geldoff) and live aid.

Now a days, I use this saying whenever my kids don’t finish their food.

As soon as I say to the kids “finish your food”

A chorus comes from the other side of the table…

”Yeah we know, baby children starving in Africa!”

Then my youngest (the cheeky one) usually says.

“Ok, I’ll send it to them then.”
