Importing from Europe

Has anyone had anything shipped or imported from Europe recently?

I'm looking at a used chipper in Holland.  Is it a nightmare at the moment? Should I just forget the idea? Has anyone any idea of costs?

I'm prepared to go and get it, but is it easier and cheaper to ship?

Thanks

Earlier in the year i looked at importing a trailer from the uk, to Sweden. Should be the same rules.

Accountant advised against collecting myself, as there'd be a high risk of getting stuck in customs, aggro of having, leaving and collecting the correct forms, sending copies of the declaration to the seller etc.

Better to leave it to the bigger hauliers who do it all daily. (who hiked their prices up outrageously earlier in the year) Make sure they do the import and custom declarations though.

The tarrif you pay depends on the item, (if any tarrif) and as i understand, its no responsibility of the seller.

Now the dust has settled, its probabally a good idea to contact a haulier and ask them for advice and costs.

 U.K to France.

Register the intended import around 6 weeks before entering France.

Need the products international customs code from the supplier.

Register for an EORI number which allows any business to purchase free of vat.

Vat (tva for France) paid upon arrival plus any customs duties.

If the product is 'made in Britain' then I believe no customs duties apply.

So for us in our work, U.K manufactered chippers and trailers represent a worthwhile purchase, higher value products.

Though I wouldn't bother for a couple of DMM krabs.
