hello.  can anyone tell me how serious this is?  these little bits of bark have been falling from the Chinese elm since the rains started.  they are covered in thick orange slime that i guess is sap?  it's not sticky, just slimy.  no smell really.  is it slime flux?

thanks in advance for you help!  i'm worried about the tree as its huge and beautiful!

Quote

In reality, there are no active measures to effectively treat the bole rot caused by slime flux disease. As determined by Dr. Alex Shigo's research, the best current advice is to maintain the tree's overall health so that the tree can isolate the spot and grow good wood around the diseased portion. Affected trees will usually overcome the problem themselves and seal off the damage.
