In terms of the rope being flat, this is pretty common in new ropes when they come off the reel. Nothing to worry about and it'll sort itself out within a few weeks generally. Double braid ropes are pretty baggy and so if you can pinch it that tight along the entire length I'd say it's likely just down to the loose construction, rather than being core damage. Check the recall notice mentioned but I wouldn't be concerned about that.

 

Regardless however, I doubt you'll have much luck returning a used rope...

Seeing your pic of the narrow rope bite there and comparing to my blue tongue (bought 2014, used with ZZ2), that looks different. I would suggest contacting your supplier, see what they make of it - may be a newer, upgraded version?

I'd imagine that a 6-7 year old length of rope would be much stiffer than a brand new piece. Worth speaking to the supplier but I doubt there is anything amiss...
