372xp no gasket

Hi guys, new to the forum here and after a bit of advice.

Have just stripped down my 372 - non x torq - that has been running fine since I bought it (ebay a few years back), though needs an overhaul now.

It was in good nick when I bought it, didn't appear to have had much use etc.

Anyway I took the cylinder off to replace the piston ring and noticed there's no gasket between the cylinder and crankcase. There's no sign of any liquid seal or anything, just metal to metal.

So my question is- firstly is there any reason why someone would intentionally remove the gasket? Or is it likely someone has rebuilt and forgotton to replace? And secondly should I rebuild as is (maybe with some liquid gasket) or just fit an oem one and rebuild?

Cheers

Someone has taken the "Delete Gasket" at face value and done just that. It is a common mod to the 372XP but....you must use liquid gasket otherwise you will lose crankcase pressure and vacuum ie....an air leak!

You have two options, degrease both surfaces and use a suitable liquid gasket or fit a new gasket.

You will lose a bit of compression if you put the gasket back - circa 15-20psi.

Use sealer or gasket.  Surprised it didnt score up.

I bought a 262 from a guy the same way. Some folks just shouldnt work on chainsaws. 🤦‍♂️

Then I found only 1 circlip installed. 😄

Freaking glad it was a no start saw.

Woah! That could have been a disaster!
