Stihl 024 Carb Replacement With Snorkel

Hello,

I have just bought an aftermarket carb for a Stihl 024.

The replacement has a snorkel on top, the original does not. I didnt know before there was a difference.

Can I use it as it is? If I do do I need a different filter?

Or can I just swap the tops between the two?

Any thoughts appreciated!

No lover of Stihl machines, however if its on the metering cover of the carb then its a compensator carb you have purchased, it should go into the air filter box for it to function correctly, i would guess you could just change the cover from the original non compensated carb,

Yes you can swap the cover from the old to the new,  I’ve done it for another stihl saw, I think it was a 026/260 iirc. Ie I brought one with out the snorkel (non compensating) and put the snorkel on from the old carb

edit I think you will find they used the same carb on some of the old 024's & 026's

Yep, I read all his posts and a few notable others as well when it comes to repairs they know there stuff and with the huge number of different models around today there's always a gem of new [ to me ] info to be had.

I mostly use Stihl stuff these days, by accident really.... I started out with Husky , a couple of saws and a stonecutter but when they got knocked it was only s/h Stihl stuff that I could find and that's how it's gone ever since... the saws I've got are all getting old but I like them and they'll probably see me out.. only ever got 1 new and that's the Stilh msa.

Got a couple of 266's though 😁👍
