Didn’t want to derail this thread by starting talking about guns / ammunition etc but they do seem to go together. The reason I’m going for a.222 is that it’s the smallest Calibre legal for fox and muntjacs and that’s all I require. I know the hmr is more than capable of dispatching both but not legally 😉

not off topic, shooting is part of bushcraft and RM shoots deer at least.

Apologies for a bit more of a derail and if you already know this but I'd ensure the .222 is still legal with a lead free bullet as lead may well be banned for stalking in years to come. I also assume the .222 is like the .223 and fairly fussy on bullet weight and twist rates so again take care if you have to use lead free.

Really?

I was asked by the Fire Arms officer when I lived in London, why do you want a .223 and a .17hmr?  I said pest control, foxes.

He replied, the .17hmr will take down a fox but it isnt legal.  To which I replied, why are you telling me this?

Have the regs changed in recent years?

Since this is now half about shooting and this is a forum:

Where on the internet are people talking about shooting these days? Been away from the forums for a few years and the bbs and ukv are both now dead. Not checked pigeonwatch but assume similar. The stalking directory seemingly less affected. Is everything on Facebook and Instagram?
