You would get about 30 chains from a 100 foot reel which will cost £325 for Stihl. So less than £11 a chain, the split links come with the reel. You could buy Rotatech chain for £200 so would be less than £7 a chain. If you like tinkering about and have plenty of work then go for it. I sharpen my chains with a small grinder, it only takes minutes.

Thanks, I don't have the work for them, it's the convenience that appeals to me.

Mine does have the idiots tensioner. But it’s been fine really. Haven’t had problems with it going loose and on the odd occasion I have a chain derail it’s nice to be able to put it back and tension without having to walk to the truck to get tools etc.

It may be slow but my Makita Duc254 would be into a second 6ah battery after that amount if cutting.

Ive just got the Parkside pole chainsaw and for 40quid its brilliant.

Spot on, I got one for tidying up a eucalyptus at home. Thought for forty quid, I could throw it away at the end if it was rubbish. Still going strong and for the money, unbeatable.

Their chainsaw is also a useful tool for domestic use. Ideal for a spot of tidying up or sorting brash. I cleared a 30 metre x 4 metre laurel hedge out with mine, no problems. Got through a lot of battery charges but didn't matter. You get roughly the same time working with two batteries as it takes to charge one if not continuously cutting.
