Hi,

bit of a cheeky question, a farmer friend has taken a big beech tree down and would like it milling. We have all the kit to mill it but our 47” bar just isn’t quite long enough..

I don’t suppose anyone has a 55/60” bar hung up in a garage/shed that they’d like to sell by any chance?

based in Wakefield West Yorkshire but happy to cover postage.

thanks

Can you not trim it up free stile, to mill it with the bar you have you would only need longer bar to cut middle slabs anyway.

Yeah that’s the other option, we have a 80cm width bandsaw that lifts up to 120cm so I could do it all with that by rotating cutting, etc. I think that will be the way I’ll go would have just have been nice to get a couple if wide boards from near the centre, although I appreciate they wouldn’t be overly stable..

Id have thought the slabs from near the center being that they are naturally quarter sawn would be the most stable of all the slabs? Just need to cut them thick enough. Obviously the center slab with the Pith will potentially split but the ones either side should be good.

You’ll need bigger than that to mill it.
A duromatic 48” will mill 42” max.
A nose sprocketed bar will lose 12” at least.
My 56” bar on my panther only mills 42”.
I also have an 80” mill with 84” bar.
Available to hire with experienced, licensed and insured operators.
Huddersfield.
