What hardwoods do you have in the UK?

Recommended Posts

We are very friendly here. I couldnt tell you about logging, I have open ears but never hear about i. I just colelct wood from local tree cutters in the big city. I am very familiar with the bush as a fisherman and camper and a few people have thought because I sell firewood that I'm some axeman from the hours away who gets his wood there also.  Timmins is 7 hours north of Toronto

Do you guys still have those timber wagons where the whole rear end is like a bogie only connected to the tractor unit via the timber it’s hauling? i used to spend 6 months a year up in Timmins doing the cold weather testing, ontario... great place great people [emoji106]
I went to Oregon in mid 90's and they had these wagons you speak of. Once empty, the trailer/bogie is loaded on the tractor unit and driven like that. Very cool.

Holly, numerous primus and black locust are common enough in towns/cities (but we call it false acacia).  I've been disappointed burning locust, after reading the views most Americans seem to have of it.  I guess different climate and it ends up quite a different wood.  My view of common trees is a city scroungers view from suburban South London. I get a lot of oak and sycamore, a bit of Holly, a little ash but not much, hardly any beech, a bit of cherry and silver birch and then bits of apple and random things from people's gardens.... Currently burning strawberry tree which is pretty good and dense, related to madrone i believe.

I could be mistaken but seem to think I've read oak is our most common woodland tree, ash most common hedge row tree.
