Why a wrist thickness anchor point?

Cheers for the replies people. I’ve been climbing a while so I’m not asking out of concern about the strength of the anchor points. It all comes back to a previous post about using rope access equipment in tree work.

In rope access anchors have to be rated to 12kn minimum which is easily done in an urban environment but I wondered if any testing had been done on the anchors we use day to day.

If I can show that our anchor points can withstand a 12kn fall then I’m one step closer to being able to use a Petzl ASAP as a fall arrest In Tree work

Wouldn't you need a dorsal attachment on a full body harness for the ASAP or any other type of fall arrest device? Fine if you're dangling off the side of a skyscraper washing windows but probably a bit annoying in a hairy lime tree...

 

AFAIK rope access anchors are tested regularly using HYDRAJAWS or similar, again something that's fine for permanent anchors on buildings that are returned to regularly but less practicable for tree work.

Some rope access back ups are rated for use at a waist attachment point, such as the Heightec Quantum. I use one for rope access de-veg as a dorsal attachment back up gets in the way. Yet to use it in a tree though

Interesting, looks very similar to the ISC Rocker but the Rocker user guidance states that full body harness should be used.

Theres too many variables involved to ever do a reliable test on every species. You could set a guideline of course, lets say for arguments sake 4" on a willow stem...then throw other things into the equation such as an included fork, the angle of the stem, and everything changes.
