Groundsman says its easier on him, less rope management, less twists and no jerk/snatch.

 

My little portawrap, part of my freelance lowering kit is rated for a tonne. Rope, with knots in is reduced I think to about 500kg.

 

So plenty scope to lower manageable sized bits on a simple lowering system.

Sounds good if your using it for a long period. See if you can take a picture next time you set it up.

I use a split tail, or a two tonne sling, then I pull the portawrap up the trunk and ratchet strap it in place on the trunk. This takes out all floppyness. Just replicates those more expensive, fixed unit designs that we would all love!

 

Sounds good Doug, gunna give that a try, i like liam hate the floppness of a porta wrap but ther good and cost efective.

whoopie or a very long peice of tenex with a timber hitch on larger trees..the secret to securing is getting it as tight as possible against the trunk there for minimalising drop on bigger bits of timber...also getting as much slack and the pulleys and hitches tight to lump being droped tight helps as well

Ditto - rachet strap to take out the slack backed up with the whoopee sling.
