Private concrete drive, the gate is there for crossing stock from one side to the other, the old fence i took down was the same style and customer chose to have it put back the same, only sheep on the farm and the customer will only have oak when it comes to post and rail.I,ve done 300 mtrs of it so far all round there garden.

Thanks. I maintain over 10 mile of fencing over the many fields we rent and gave up on so-called tanalised round posts as they weren't lasting 5 year on limestone down here near Bath. Sawn oak and split chestnut are our preference but I've heard some give up on wooden stakes altogether and are using angle iron or even scaffolding poles. Glad you get the opportunity to do it properly.

Had a nice drive up the Yarrow Valley to site this morning, got to the lower end of St Marys Loch and it was stunning, we stopped for 5 minutes to take it in.

That's exactly what it was like this morning.

Did you hire a boat to go fishing by any chance, from a corrugated iron hut just off the roadside?

On a Wednesday I usually have a day off from tree work and do my own stuff. Part of it is looking after a stretch of river bank and adjacent ground, its on the River Tweed with fishing rights and Southern Upland Way walking route.

A couple weeks back Scottish Water sub contractors came to fix the leaking sewer pipe unannounced. Having damaged a tarmac driveway and 2 trees while unloading their digger, the work took 2 days. I saw it when strimming today and it makes me angry.

End result is a section of smaller diameter pipe pieced in but unsupported and leaking both ends, and they've damaged the original pipe above the repair which has become the new outlet, leading to a pond of shit water and wet wipes on the river bank. The landowner has complained but no response yet.

It's ridiculous they can treat our Rivers like this.

Its the same where ever you go No one gives a **************** ??, There is hundreds of 1000s of pounds spent every year on trying to educate the public on cutting down on items that pollute our waterways but i for one would of thought that the guys who came to fix it would be trained to a high standard and would not be leaving a job with more chance of pollution than when they started, The photos say it all and if i had done a botch job like  that i would be to ashamed to send a invoice, it looks like a couple of 5 yr olds have done it,,

The worst thing I think is that the botched work has revealed what's going into the river. The whole area stank of it and so many wipes in it, this can't be treated waste surely.

To think it's compulsory to pay for these "services".

Edit. I can imagine the contractors ticked all the boxes, met all the paperwork criteria etc...

From a point of view from a keen angler for near on 5 decades, and given the changes i have seen in them 5 decades on my local rivers and there not good changes as most species of fish have declined in numbers from what they where say 30yr ago,

I would of thought that the Tweed could possibly be one of the most important rivers in the UK these days, i do know several lads who fish it and from what they say it is in decline but situations like you report do not help any, it sickens me to see what you report as a river will decline a lot faster than it recovers, i would think if you reported it along with many others it would may be, and just may be get sorted a bit quicker,
