Petzl grillion or zillion?

Hi guys, I’m just getting into climbing and want to invest in a new mechanical lanyard. With shops closed at moment it’s hard to view items. I was trained on the grillion, but sometimes found it a little awkward. Any recommendation would be much appreciated. 👍

I’ve got a zillion. Bought as when I started climbing got a zigzag so the zillion made sense. Would highly recommend it. Only thing I’ve done is fitted a petzl swivel as I found it bound up on my harness. I’ve also got an Art positioner 2 on my steel core but just don’t get on with it as well.

I start on and used the Grillon for years. It was ok but the thing that boiled my piss was that it wouldn’t pass loler unless it had Petzl’s own hugely overprice rope in it. Switched to Art, you can use any 1/2 inch rope fo4 that and it works just as well, if not better.

I’ve been on grillon for about 8 years. Just replaced one as it failed loler, I’m finding the new one doesn’t feed anywhere near as nicely as the old one and also struggles a lot more with sap on the rope. Going to move across to the Art positioner as I’m a big fan of their other gear

Personally, I would inspect the individual components separately and pass/fail them on their condition individually.
If the friction device is in good working condition it should pass regardless of whether or not there is a (Petzl) rope accompanying it.
