American Qualifications Equivalent

Recommended Posts

Hi can anyone tell me if an American OSHA chainsaw safety & maintenance qualification would transfer over to the UKs ntpc qualifications?

American with many years experience and foreman /trainer who migrated over from the states looking for work shocked at the expense and amount of certificates needed.

Any information you can give is very appreciated

Thank you.

@AA Teccie (Paul) may be able to help with the correct answer!

I had a lad ring for work that had moved from the states, he was in the process of doing uk nptc tickets so I guess they don’t interchange easily, good luck with it.

I believe with NPTC to get the ticket you can just do the assessment rather than having to do a mandatory number of days training, so that so that could cut the cost a lot.

I guess you would need a bit of an introduction as to the UK ways of working and HSE topics converted from OSHA so ideally you'd find a friendly training centre prepared to do a few days conversion course.

The general view from HSE is that it is the employers responsibility to ensure an operative is competent, and capable, to perform whatever tasks / jobs are assigned. Training and qualifications can clearly help with this and PUWER Regs also support this.

With non-UK workers you need to ensure competence in the first place, and document / record this, and within 12 months align them to the UK system, i.e. NPTC / Lantra.

Your insurance company may have an opinion too, which may not align with the above unfortunately.

Regards,

Paul

If you are experienced you should fly through. Go through the criteria with someone and then just take the assessment.
