Rope Wrench Tether Options/Substitute?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone prefers to use anything other than the standard stiff tether that comes with the Rope Wrench with SRT?

I tried replacing the stiff tether with a short thin webbing sling to have a loose tether instead for more flexibility and a shorter reach, but not sure what to make of the floppy-ness. I really like it being shorter and close to the hitch though!

The thing that puts me off of the stiff tether is that I feel it is very cumbersome in denser trees and just gets up getting in the way or getting caught on thin branches.

Interested to hear what others do, and any suggestions

ISC are bringing out the Squirrel Tether in Feb, a rigid metal tether to be used with the Rope Wrench. You might try a mechanical SRT device - the Akimbo is very compact but comes with some mixed reviews. Or you can buy shorter stiff tethers.

I think the realistically though, climbing in dense trees is always crap and frustrating!

Maybe you could give the Hitch Hiker a go (if you can find one)? I've never tried one myself, but it looks to have minimal snaggability. It looks like it would be great for open ascents and descents, would be interested to hear from anyone who uses one for working the whole canopy. Also no CE marking or anything so you'd be riding dirty.

I used a Hitch Hiker for quite a few years. Bloody brilliant device.
Just tie the hitch cord REALLY snug and it’s perfect all day long.
I still have it in a box actually.
