I am looking to purchase a property that has a TPO in the grounds. I am told many enquiries have fallen flat due the TPO which relates to a huge Beech which appear to be less than 3ft from a wall with roots protruding beneath the proeprty. What is the procedure for having the TPO removed and if approved whom would be responsible for removing the tree?

You would need to submit an application to your local (to the tree) planning authority. You will need to provide evidence (probably a tree survey by a Suitably qualified person) that the tree is causing structural damage

Now this is total guess work, but judging from the adjacent buildings, and the brick styles, I'd say that the tree was there first, ie the house is a new build. If so, how in Heaven's name did anyone get permission to build the house? Could be wrong, of course, often am.

If it's a recent build you should be able to find all the original planning docs online which may shed light on the TPO and steps taken to cater for the tree.

thanks for your sensible advice, I wish I had noticed this house for sale earlier
