I had  Peacock* in my lounge earlier!Had to catch it in a pint glass and put it out.  supposed to snow tomorrow so I hope it finds a spot to rehibernate quickly!  I normally just get queen wasps (bloomin' loads of them!) shield bugs and a few small moths.  It brought a bit of colour to a grey and cold midwinter day.  Anybody else get any nice insects emerge from their firewood a it warms up?

*I'm not good at Papillion ID, but I think it was a Peacock.

There's definitely a queen living at the back of my bookcase against the cold outside wall because I saw her fly there from the log basket.

I reckon she'll come out or already has.  I get feckin' loads of the black and yellow feckers every year.  4 so far this year.  I've had several disappear on top of kitchen cabinets for a few days then dozily emerge.  I've also had several crawl into the lounge Light rose before coming out again.  They don't seem any more awake even a few days later.

Just found a dead hedgehog on the lane behind the house. I didn't think any would be out and about in this freezing weather, minus 4 here at 0500.

Its a shame coming across dead ones David, theres not enough of them as it is,i did come across a live one in a hedge i was laying last year it was in some leaves under some ivy, left it there and it was fine

Yes it is Gary. I've left loads of brash by my fence line so they can nest safely. Don't know whether he was hit by a vehicle of maybe dragged out of the nest, a few foxes and badgers here as we are next to woods.
