Rewood Timber Price

Good morning everyone this there much value in Sequioa? possibly have a mature redwood coming down but quoted price 4-5K for works, what roughly would the timber be worth to offset the cost? Lorry access is ok. 6 foot across at the base, usual big redwood!

I recently did a deal to buy a load and price is £100 per ton delivered to my yard.  Some people may pay more but it is not a tree the usual mills will want - it is a specialist niche tree.

In fact I have just remembered that the load I am buying is Coastal Redwood (Sequoia Sempervirens) which is far superior timber so you could argue that Giant Redwood (Sequoiadendron giganteum) is worth less.

Well yes it certainly is worth far more when converted to planks.  You have to find multiple customers for it though and selling may take years.  Depends what you want to spend your time doing!

Its kinda like having a tank of water, a bucket of barley and a pack of yeast and asking how much its worth. When the realisation of how little its worth sets in then saying, no, I'll make whisky instead and sell it then.

 

There's quite a big process, and cost between the raw and finished products and of course a big delay in getting your money. 

 

If you have a way of Milling it yourself and of course the time then its worth doing.

Yeah £100 a ton delivered is generous as there’s not a big market for it.

Slab them and dry them I get 300 for 2.7mtr ×1mtr×2" slabs seen ppl advertising for double that probably why mine have shot out ?

What part of the country? It is a useful species for chainsaw carving.

Am Newcastle upon Tyne and a haven't got a clue about carving mate makes sexy tables though
