I never use a guard with a mulching blade either . The worst thing that has happened to me is I hit a small pot of white paint that had been discarded in a load of bramble  . Made a bit of a mess on my strides .

Alright for you Gunga Din, not something I would risk with a shredder blade in rough areas as it can fling bits of metal with a fair force, mind I am happy to use it with the standard Stihl guard with the black rubber strip removed.

Fitted the shredder guard today and both a 300mm shredder blade and a 270mm shredder blade. There's clearance I think it'd be ok, what do you guys think?

How do you like those Oregon heads?

Used with the 7mm Techni blades other day shreds everything. Brambles where??

Yep I like them . Use a 4 slot head but only put 2 lines in the bottom slots . The 4 slot head keeps the fixing nut under flush so won't dig in . ( the plastic cups come off to easily )  I use 4.00 mm square " Diamond edge " from desert extrusions , about 9 inches long . Hence no guard .

Have a look at the Oregon Jet head and Techni blades weve had head for years running with 4mm Flexi blade does most things up to brambles/light bush last well unlike round lines even brambles don't wreck it.

Ive just got head and Techni 7mm's said even better than flexi tried the thinner flexi out now got machine working ok cuts good.

To me they cover all upto heavy bushes which then you'd use a flat cutter blade so far more useful and mulches everything up also.

@Mark_Skyland sells them so should have info/help?

Sorry I completely missed this mention.

Looks like the OP is now sorted, the jet fit heads are a little known really good product. They seem to take a good battering.

As already mentioned most dont use the guard with the mulcher blades. Apparently the three pronged ones dont spray the mulch about as much but do need a bit more power.

Both oregon mulcher blades are available 3 or 4mm thick.
