Career advice needed

Hello, guys, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions to help me get into the surveying area of the industry. I have a level 3 qualification in Arb as well as CS30/31/38/39, and have been in the industry for 5 years now. I am soon to be returning for the second year of a forestry management degree in Cumbria. A requirement of the course is a placement year in the industry. I am aiming for a placement at a company that is more tree surveying and consultancy than forestry management companies. When the courses begin again I will be booking in with the Arb association for they're Professional tree surveying course. My question is what qualifications would you recommend to try and get to get me in the industry? Any advice in this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jack, the 'Professional Tree Surveying' course to which you refer is probably the Lantra - Professional Tree Inspection course ('PTI') and this is increasingly becoming a 'must have,' or at least a very desirable 'should have', to access the tree inspection / tree surveying industry / role.

Interesting that you are doing a 'forestry' management degree but looking to enter 'arb'...do the college/Uni offer an 'arb' (or 'Urban Forestry') option you could transfer to maybe or do they by any chance have an arrangement with Myerscough that you could transfer there as they offer 'arb' degrees.

Other than that there are a range of short courses for fungi, P&D etc. that would be useful be presume you will cover this in your degree course anyway.

Would agree with everything Paul has said above, but also keep up with your CPD and record it, you will find that your knowledge and experience grows exponentially as a result.
