Lime I reckon.

 

You won’t lean it from websites, learn to identify  the tree in the field, then you’ll become familiar with bark, wood coloring, branch attachements etc.

Agree. Its a skill developed over years, unless you have some sort of photographic memory of course.

Cheers fro all the comments ....if it's Lime it's not a great burner and in terms of identifying trees it's mainly so I can pick out a few of the decent burning ones like Ask, oak, Elm etc and the just avoid the rest but totally get it probably is something learnt over time.

It's hard to learn lots of trees at once, a few years ago I started the strategy to learn one and then keep looking out to recognise it when out and about for a while, before trying to learn another. Gradually I've learnt a lot but also realised how many more there are to learn.

It's a good starting point if you can remember all the native trees on the woodland trust
