I have completely run out of seasoned hardwood logs. I have a few ton of conifer that has been lying about for about 18 months waiting to be burned with the brushwood. Customer calls and i say i only have conifer, i will give you a net free, if it is any good i will do you a load. customer rings back and is more than happy with it, and it leaves a lovely aroma around the house. This was on an open fire , he said it didnt spit either.

i have been burning that stuff as well, mines 3 years old and dry. there seems to be a misconception that you should only burn hardwood. i spend alot of winters in the alps, most bars etc have a fire or burner, sure they burn birch and oak but they burn loads of pine and spruce. if its dry i.e. no sap then burn it.

Im mixing in 3yr seasoned leyllandii logs with my hardwood for my own open fire, burns lovely though a little quickly. Hasnt really spat out any sparks to worry about. I have just cleaned my chimney, so it will be interesting to see f there is any extra soot from it. With firewood in higher demand, I think people will have to accept whatever suppiers have in stock.

It's rubbish imo but if that's all you got it's better than nothing. I'd sell it at a severely reduced rate.

Why reduce the rate? it still takes the same amount of time to process and deliver, after all the customer is already happy burning conifer.......

My mate has burned conifer for years and speaks very highly of it

Mine just gets cut and mixed into the pile with all the other stuff, find its quite good to burn to be honest and no complaints either but i wouldnt do a full load of it unless its all i had and it would then be a bit cheaper.

It's a doddle to split so quicker to put a load together plus it burns so bloody fast. One load of hardwood would last me twice as long as a load of conifer.....Fairplay if the customer is happy, ignorance is bliss.:001_smile:

I let the customer try it first, hes very happy with it, takes me the same amount of time to process it. why should i reduce the price? At least i am not conning people, they know what they are getting and if they dont like it , they wont buy it. A tree surgery firm near me are selling green (2 weeks cut) willow as seasoned hardwood. I wonder if they are giving the customers a free sample before they buy? I always thought it was crap wood until now.
