Well, I am quite used to Griselinia littoralis, even as a tree, and it does not look the same as the plant I am asking about. The leaf underside of the latter is really whitish, and the bark does not match. I wondered whether this mystery tree would be another species of Griselinia, but I have found nothing matching.

No worries,It's fairly popular as a coastal hedge, plenty of it down around wexford. never seen one as big as that. I've heard it called daisy bush by a few older clients, from memory, I think it has nice, deep coloured heartwood.
