Is the Forest Master FM10TW-7-TC the best log splitter I can buy for the price?

Hi

I'm looking at buying a log splitter for my wood burner and I've seen the FM10TW-7-TC on forest-master.com and wondered if anyone has this model of log splitter and what you think of it?

FOREST-MASTER.COM

Buy the FM10TW-7-TC Electric Log Splitter. Heavy Duty log splitter with 7-tons of force, perfect for heavy domestic use. Includes work bench and guard.

This is the one I'm looking at. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

I bought a Forest Master 7 ton electric splitter with the duocut knife on it in 2016.

It has worked well, though I haven't really abused it. One of the nuts sheared off shortly after I got it. I emailed them a photo and they sent me a replacement free of charge. It will take fair-sized rounds, up to 40cm as they say, but will fail on really gnarly stuff. On the whole I'm pleased with it. On the downside, it's not a light thing, and isn't super stable because the legs are so close together. Keep thinking I should make a kind of cradle for it.

I generally use it with it sat on the back of the pickup. I run it off a 3.4kW Clarke/Honda generator when I'm in the woods, and that works fine, though as soon as you engage the ram the genny gives an almighty snort like a bull lining up a target.

EDIT: the wheels on the one in the picture look a bit more widely set than mine, so maybe they've realised the need for greater stability.

Hi MrWarrey,

I have one of these & had it for a few years now & it`s ideal for the domestic user. Never had a problem with it & have split some big rounds ... just remember to undo the screw for the hydraulics before you start splitting & then tighten it up when you finish. It`s a lot quicker to use if you have someone operating the lever & power button & someone putting the rounds on & throwing the cut logs into a barrow or whatever.

I didn`t get the guard with mine as that looks like a new feature,  but it looks like it would slow things down & get in the way, If you want protection just use some gloves & safety specs ... hope this helps.

*EDIT* I don`t get why the guy in the video is standing @ the back of it & stretching, it`s a lot easier operating it from the side as that`s where the power button is!
