Milling Oak vs Pine ...Help! Cutting speed?

How far did you take them down ?? Been sharpening saws for 30 years but this chainsaw milling does have a knack of knowing the correct bars with the correct saws as well as little tricks using older worn chains.Just only ever done the odd trunk before alaskan style having a bandsaw mill. Now i have the m7 looking at more chainsaw side of things.

Exactly what I did. 

Now I'm doing a board in half a tank. 

And making plenty of dust ( oatmeal?) 

I thought you lifted one of my pictures there. [emoji3] I have a picture kinda like that. I find after a fresh sharpen I get nice clean chips fading to what you describe as Oatmeal as I move along the cut. of course that depends on the size of log and species etc. The Last log i did with an Alaskan maxed out my 48" Mill with a 48" Bar and 2/3 along I was back to oatmeal but still cutting fine. So I did one more pass then another light sharpen.

Get a decent bench grinder.
Not a plastic one.

Use one for sharpening, other for depth gauges?

Could probably take another 0.1-0.15mm off.
That oatmeal still looks a bit fine

I'm going to ruin it by saying I just took a mm or so off the top of the rakers with the granberg at 0 deg.

The change was immense.

I've got a couple of 24" chains to do and I'll be a bit more precise with them.
