Thanks - yeah I'll check out for helicoiling as did it a long time ago as an apprentice, but not recently and will need to get a kit. But as ever thanks for all the suggestions and updates its really appreciated.

Not sure if your in a rush to repair the saw, but helicoil taps are quite expensive from UK/Europe. I got a M16x1.25 tap from China for a tenner, and it cut a very nice thread for the insert in a stripped out Stihl jug.
Tried a repair kit, and it was crap, came with loads of inserts though of different length.

UPDATE! - So after cleaning cylinder transfer using brick acid and cotton bud for while and then replacing piston and ring, fired up on second pull! I now have a very smokey running chainsaw so now I need to tune the carb I guessing. But at least she runs! Thanks all for your help!

Oh and managed to get a pal to do the helicoil so thats done to!

Thanks again

Nice one.  Thanks for the update.

Plenty of 'how to's' on carb tuning on here and on t'internet.....

Smokey, might be if previous owner was trying to tune out an air leak ( ----> lean mixture)....but don't bank on it, make sure fueling is right or it'll seize again.
