I did a survey for a large organisation a couple of years ago, a few thousand urban trees, updating a survey from 6 or 7 years before that by someone else. The organisation had in the meantime lost about 30% of its tree stock, mostly young and semi mature. The most common cause was strimming at the bases, the second most common was overpruning or pruning at the wrong time of year. Only a couple of percent had been windthrown, and all that died of pathogens could have this attributed to human damage. The best trees were in shrub beds.

Nice plug after doctoring my quote ?

not what I would have expected

Sign of the times? This App is an indicator of how the Arb industry might change. Maybe...

We accept and appreciate precision targeted advertising by Google's backdoor into Apps but there are costs.

We've seen how the market share changes when platforms like Uber and Just Eat operate in the peripheral service sectors of mincabs and takeaways...

There are other ways...

Just making a point.

To survey trees using the App has merit. No doubt. But do we need specialists yammering away on finer details in General Chat?

Who doesn't like notifications from their feeds?

Well, one group. Some of us resist being force fed the obvious when we want something more appetising. Not all bad marketing campaigns are good just because they still stimulate a buzz or boost a trend. Perhaps the people behind this App need better creatives?

You have my sympathy.

The thread’s opening post is about a free, easy to understand strategy for Homeowners to manage their tree risk. There’s no App involved.  I figured the best fit for this subject was in the General Chat group.

After some interesting exchanges with Andrew, the thread was then trolled by my weird little obsessive stalker with a couple of shameless and bare-faced lies.  I decided I shouldn't let that deliberate effort at smearing by deceit go unchallenged and it’s now gone off-topic.

I’ll see whether the moderators can kill it and and do some tidying up, so the content resembles the title.

Just to clarify.  You can’t use the App to survey trees at a ‘Basic’ level.  Neither is it necessary.  You only use it if you need to take a closer look and increase the level assessment to a ‘Detailed’ level because you’ve spotted an obvious tree risk feature, and the risk might not be Acceptable or Tolerable.  This is a trained Arborist thing, and not something for the Homeowner.
